"Emerging Technologies in Wireless LANs: Theory, Design, and Deployment"

Because very sensitive information
may be used on the mobile device at work, the employer may need to ensure that the
data is no longer stored on the device outside of work. Additionally, if the device is
lost it must be excluded from further access to services. Forced removal of
applications as well as not distributing applications to rogue devices is important.
32.2.4 Mobile devices to adapt to various types of connectivity
??? Sporadic bandwidth. While the desktop users enjoy a reliable broadband Internet
connection, the wireless users experience somewhat different access methods;
although they are likely to have high bandwidth wireless connections in hotspots, it is
sporadic. Outside hotspot coverage they will rely on expensive cellular networks with
limited bandwidth. Being able to predict the type of bandwidth and therefore what
type of application will run effectively in that particular bandwidth is essential.
??? Sporadic connectivity. By their intrinsic nature, as mobile users move between or
outside of different types of networks, it will require use of services when the mobile
devices are not connected to the network. Ubiquitous homogenous wireless coverage
is not yet a reality.
